Today’s sermon was on “Streams of Water.” And a good sermon it was, but that is not what caught my eye. It was the word, “delight” in verse two. How does that equate to joy? Delight and Joy.
How are they the same and yet different. The concordance has a whole column worth of delights. And in the back on my head there are multiple verses of the “Lord being delighted . . .” And Psalm 119:47 speaks of finding delight in the commandments of God. Finding joy in the commandments is a part of my growth.
I also find it interesting that the word delight, did not jump out to me earlier when I first started my One Word study, as it is in the very definition of Joy. More than once.
The bible is full of delights and joy for us and for God. Zephaniah 3:17b jumped out to me from Google and I really like it.
The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.
God takes great delight in me. I bring God great joy. He rejoices. I take great delight in learning more about God in my bible readings and it strengthens my faith and brings me great joy.
This is my 6th year using the One Word as part of my bible study. I have known that a more effective bible study should include journaling. But I have resisted because I did not want to write (my handwriting is fairly sloppy). So I started to type. . . and I figured since I am typing I might as well share it as a blog. Each year, I felt I have learned and grown from each word. (I will share past words sometime later). The journal-ing in just this week has been a wonderful experience. Not only does it allow me to focus a bit better, but I know I will be able to read it again in the future to reinforce some things and also to see how much I have actually grown. As opposed to knowing that I have grown, but not being able to review my thoughts and experiences.
